This morning I was made aware that Awakening Records have released what they claim to be my third album, which they are offering for sale on their website. I realize that this will be welcome news for many people, but my loyal supporters need to know that this album release is NOT taking place with my blessing OR my consent!
The tracks they have chosen to release are ‘work in progress’ and are almost entirely based on stolen mp3 demos that are far from complete and are certainly not of the high standard, lyrically, musically and technically, that I always insist upon. Consequently, for me to hear these incomplete recordings, that only represent a sketch of what I would wish to release for my discerning supporters, is painful beyond description. I therefore wish to make it perfectly clear that an album comprised of any such recordings could only be put on to the market against my wishes and without my specific approval.
I need to explain that, for the past year, I have been in dispute with Awakening Records, the main thrust of my grievances being their total lack of transparency in dealing with me. I have made strenuous efforts to resolve the accumulated issues that I kept turning a blind eye to, all the while maintaining a measured, polite and dignified means of communication, but to no avail.
Personally, I’m able to cope with the aggravation that I’ve had to endure during this past year, but I will NOT tolerate my brothers and sisters and my many loyal supporters being cheated, lied to and made a mockery of. BOYCOTT THEM!! They are unworthy of your support, in addition to which I can’t bear the thought of you shelling out your hard earned cash for music pretending to be my finest work, which it certainly isn’t! Equally unbearable is allowing these people who have abused my trust to profit from selling my music in a form that they know full well is incomplete and which, arguably, doesn’t even belong to them.
Please be patient. I am in the process of completing my album which will be ready in just a few short weeks and which I will make available at the earliest opportunity, but only when it is completed to my total satisfaction and which represents my musical, lyrical and spiritual hopes and aspirations for us all.
One thing that I will do, as a sign of my affection and respect for those many people of every nationality around the world that have supported me over these past years, is work through the night to prepare MY version of Palestine Forever and provide it as a free download on my new website: samiyusufofficial.com

Assalamu alaikom,
A number of announcements have appeared recently on various websites and forums, stating that I am about to release a new album. I realize that this will be welcome news for many people, but unfortunately it is not true. Out of respect for my many supporters I feel compelled to set the record straight and explain the reason for my prolonged delay in releasing a new album.
For the past year, I have been in dispute with the company that has released my previous albums, Awakening Records. I have tried to make every effort to resolve the numerous issues that are the cause of my dissatisfaction with them, but to no avail. The only remaining solution, and one that I do not undertake lightly, is to seek legal redress through the courts. This process has now begun and we can only pray for a swift resolution.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that an album of new material by me will shortly be released. This news is extremely disturbing to me. I do not know from where these reports are emanating. Awakening, for example, only have in their possession a few incomplete demos of some of the songs that I have been working on. Without exception, all of these are unfinished and in an extremely early stage of development. Either musically or in their lyrics they only represent a sketch of what I would wish to release for my discerning supporters and for my own musical, artistic and spiritual satisfaction. I therefore wish to make it perfectly clear that an album comprised of any such recordings could only be put on to the market against my wishes and without my specific approval.
I can only pray that in the not too distant future I will be free to release the album of my new songs that will be completed to my total satisfaction and that of my supporters and represent my musical and lyrical hopes and aspirations for us all.

Humble, down-to-earth and deeply spiritual � that was how UK-born Muslim singing sensation Sami Yusuf came across on Wednesday at an exclusive press conference held at the Mount Nelson hotel. The UK born self-professed �musician� jetted into Cape Town for the first leg of his Sami Yusuf World Tour presented by Oasis Group Holdings. Yusuf, who has sky-rocketed to fame in the last fours across the globe, will perform at two concerts in Cape Town on Friday and Saturday at the Bellville Velodrome.
A modest Yusuf told VOC News that his music transcended all social, religious and political barriers and should be seen a as a form of da�wah. He added that he drew his inspiration from people all over the world and his global experiences had been communicated through his music.
�I do not consider myself a nasheed artist but rather a musician. While I do sing about Islam, Allah (SAW) and the beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), I believe my message appeals to all audiences, no matter what religious or ethnic group,� he said. Yusuf said many countries had been �very accepting� of his music and the response to his numerous global concerts was proof of that. He added that he has never encountered any negative backlash from the global Muslim community or from the media.
*The response from my fans, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, has been amazing. The best experience I remember was in Holland where I saw so many different faces. I also think the response from the media has been fairly good. Im an optimist and do not believe in conspiracy theories so I tend to ignore the bad, he related.
The New York Times has labelled the shy singer as the �biggest Muslim rock-star a label Yusuf quickly brushed off. People have tried to box me as a rock or pop-star, but I do not conform to any label. I want to be the best and I do what I believe him. I never thought that 20 000 people would come to see me in Istanbul but it happened. My music has never been for commercial gain but if it has that success...Alhamdullilah, he said.
Yusuf enthused that his fans considered him to be volatile artistically, as they never new what to expect from him. He said his new album, to be released in 2009, has allowed him to diversify and explore various avenues in his genre. The substance of my music is quite consistent but people always expect something different so I try to give them that. I am in the human chapter of my life and have so many stories to tell I want to share it with the world.�
The 28-year-old songwriter moves to Durban next week where he performs at the Durban ICC Arena on 21 and 22 October. The final concert takes place on 25 October at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg. VOC (Tasneem Mohamed)
